Relationality and Proximity is the second in a three-part series from my doctoral research on public breastfeeding through practice-based design. It explores how closeness — emotional, spatial, political — shapes how we see, care, and act.

This book holds space for awkward truths and radical generosity. It brings in the voices of activists, parents, and practitioners whose experiences are rarely centred in design. It challenges the assumption that distance creates objectivity — and asks what becomes possible when we get closer.

The stories, quotes, and principles in this book aren’t here to solve anything. They’re here to provoke, reframe, and open up design to more honest, more relational, more caring work.

Listen in.

This book is also available as an audio recording — read in my own voice. I’ve included it to make the work more accessible, and because sometimes hearing something changes how it connects.

The tone, pace, and pauses bring a different texture to the words. It might feel more like being in conversation, which fits the spirit of the research — grounded in dialogue, care, and proximity.

Listen while walking, resting, or however suits you best.
