GambLGBTQ+ is a study aimed at understanding gambling in LGBTQ+ communities in Great Britain. It is a collaboration between researchers at the University of Brighton, LGBT Switchboard Brighton and Hove, and YouGov. It is funded by GambleAware. The study involves a large national survey and multiple qualitative methods such as interviews, online diaries and photovoice. Using multiple research methods we seek to develop the first extensive evidence-base of gambling and the associated harms for those who are part of LGBTQ+ communities in Great Britain.

“Working with Zander on this part of the project demonstrates the importance and potential of creative practice in research—especially when we’re engaging with complexity that doesn’t sit neatly in graphs or transcripts. Photography offered us a way to stay close to participants’ experiences while stepping them into the public realm. These images carry stories into everyday spaces, where they can open up recognition, reflection, and dialogue. For me, this is where research starts to move—when it meets the world not just through words, but through feeling, form, and encounter.”
