Ph.D Research

Design, Culture, Gender: Design as a socio-material tool for UK public breastfeeding research.

My ongoing practice based AHRC Design Star funded PhD has a supervision team that spans the disciplines of Design, and Public Health at the University of Brighton, and Metadesign at Goldsmiths University, London. My research uses design to observe, engage and intervene in contemporary UK public breastfeeding discourses. This research focuses on gender, care, food, culture, motherhood and parenthood and critically examines the role of design in relation to complex issues of sustainability.

The Covid Diaries.

The film "The Covid Diaries" tells the story of my roles as mother and academic during the pandemic. For more information on the film, and experiences as a mother - practice-based design doctoral researcher during the COVID-19 Pandemic please see my Open Access Article ‘Motherhood, COVID-19, and the postgraduate research experience: personal practice-based design insights’ in the Journal of Design for Health.
